Fontodi is located in the heart of the Chianti Classico within the valley that opens to the south of the town of Panzano called "Conca d'oro": a terroir renowned for centuries for its vocation to quality viticulture, due to a unique combination of high altitude, marly soil, great brightness and a warm, dry microclimate with a wide temperature range.
The company, devoted to traditional cultivation on all 130 hectares of property, is inspired by principles of naturalness and sustainability, not using synthetic chemical products, but trying to make the most of the company's internal resources, with vineyards fertilized using compost produced by combining pruning residues and manure from the Chianina cow breeding on the farm. From this extraordinary example of low environmental impact agriculture comes the Flaccianello della Pieve, one of the symbolic products of Sangiovese in the Chianti area.
Flaccianello receives minimal treatments in the cellar, according to a production philosophy perfectly consistent with the line undertaken in the vineyard, characterized by a high manual selection of the best grapes: only spontaneous fermentations are carried out with indigenous yeasts, capable of highly enhancing the terroir of origin , while the final refinement in Allier barriques gives roundness without masking the fundamental characteristics of the product. These are the peculiarities that have made Flaccianello di Fontodi one of the reference wines for quality Chianti viticulture over time.
