L'Apparita, the first pure Merlot produced in Tuscany, has been a cult wine since the first vintage, 1985. Positioned at
at the top of the Bellavista Vineyard, there are the two parcels that make up the L'Apparita vineyard.
Planted in 1975 with Canaiolo and Malvasia Bianca, they were regrafted in 1982 with Merlot, with clone 342.
The open lyre training method and the particularly clay-rich soil make this Cru a jewel
of world oenology. From the first vintage this wine has kept its unique expression and characteristics intact
of Merlot are enhanced by the combination of the Ama terroir.
CLIMATE
The winter was mild and rainy. In April we had a rapid rise in temperature, while May and
June were unstable. Summer finally arrived in July, characterized by strong temperature variations between day and
the night, which favored the development of perfumes and aromas. Despite the hailstorm at the end of August, the grapes remained
presented healthy. After numerous samplings and organoleptic analyzes in the vineyard and in the laboratory, the harvest took place
manually in 10/12 kg boxes, on 15 September. The harvest was full of expectations, which were not the case
betrayed.
WINEMAKING
The vinification was induced by indigenous yeasts in steel tanks at a controlled temperature between 30/33°, with pumping over
manuals with a total stay (cuvaison) of 28 days. After racking, the wine passed into barriques for
carry out malolactic fermentation.
REFINEMENT
At the end of the malolactic fermentation the wine returned to fine-grained oak barriques, 50% new and the remaining
in second passage barriques. Aging for approximately 14 months.
