ima: The 2013 vintage was characterized by frequent precipitation during the winter months and temperatures below the average during the spring months, causing a delay in budding about 10-15 days compared to average for the period. The summer saw the rise of temperatures, especially in the second half of July, allowing plants to accelerate the processes of ripening of the grapes, finished regularly September, thanks also to the excellent temperature variations between day and night. Harvest operations, in have had a general delay compared to recent years beginning in the second half of September with Sangiovese, while Cabernet Sauvignon was harvested in the first week of October.
Winemaking: The grapes, after being destemmed and softly pressed, were introduced into tanks stainless steel where alcoholic fermentation took place at a controlled temperature above 30°C. The maceration lasted about 20 days, during which they were carried out mechanical interventions aimed at the controlled extraction of aromas, structure and sweet tannins. At the end of malolactic fermentation, carried out in stainless steel tanks for Sangiovese and in barriques of second and third passage for Cabernet Sauvignon, the various batches have been assembled and have continued their refinement in wood mainly in large barrels and partly in barriques, fine to spring 2015. Bottling took place in June 2015. Historical data: Starting from the 2010 vintage, Villa Antinori has found a new youth and with the opening of the new winery in Chianti Classico, his home. The Antinori family wanted to pay homage to a historic label and a wine with a long tradition. The first vintage was 1928 and up to 2000 ha represented the idea of Chianti Classico Riserva over time. Tasting notes: Ruby red in color with slight garnet reflections, the Villa Chianti Classico Riserva 2013 presents excellent notes of berries, which combine well with the spicy ones of cinnamon and toasted coffee, with slight hints of tobacco. On the palate it is harmonious, enveloping, with silky tannins; long and persistent in aftertaste, where the fruity and woody notes perceived on the nose return.
