CLIMATE AND VINTAGE
The 2021 vintage began with a rainy and mild winter which allowed the soil's water reserves to be replenished.
After a dry March, budding occurred in the first two weeks of April. The gradual increase
of the temperatures, with normal rainfall, allowed regular growth of the shoots, to reach a
flowering in excellent conditions at the end of May. Since the month of June, fully summery weather has emerged
with temperatures slightly higher than average and an almost absence of precipitation, leading to veraison
to the last week of July. The drought lasted throughout August and September. Despite this, the
spring rains have given the calcareous-clayey soils the ability to release sufficient reserves to the plant
to avoid debilitating water stress, but rather concentrated berries with high quality potential.
VINIFICATION AND AGING
The grapes were harvested by hand in 15 kg boxes. After destemming and light pressing, the grapes are
were transferred into concrete tanks by gravity, without any pumping. Every single parcel of the vineyard is
was vinified separately. Fermentation occurred spontaneously with indigenous yeasts at temperatures
around 25-28°C, with two or three pumping overs per day and délestages where necessary. The total time in the tanks
ranged from 21 to 25 days. Malolactic fermentation took place in barriques, 50% new oak. After
the first 12 months of aging the wine was assembled and reintroduced into barriques for another 3 months, before
of bottling.
TASTING NOTES
The high qualitative potential that was perceived when tasting the grapes before harvesting finds coherence in the expression
qualitative of Massetino 2021. An intact, crunchy and brightly colored wine. Perfumes immediately capable of
be remembered for persistence and fullness. Vibrant tannins, young and constantly evolving enough to keep alive
tasting it with tenacity. Massetino 2021 is as powerful as the vintage of which it is the son.
