Mythical cellar, which needs no introduction, that of Montevertine is a reality that perhaps more than any other in Tuscany is synonymous with Sangiovese and tradition. A winery that was born in the late 60s in the heart of Chianti Classico, not far from Radda in Chianti, thanks to the intuition of Sergio Manetti, then a steel industrialist. In fact, the first planting followed the restoration of the house, two hectares of vineyards flanked by a small cellar, and the idea of ??producing some wine for friends. However, given the success of the first vintage produced, that of 1971, Sergio decided to abandon his business and devote himself entirely to the production of wine, supported in the cellar by what is considered the greatest and most knowledgeable connoisseur of Sangiovese, the unforgettable Giulio Gambelli .
The intent was immediately to produce a wine that bears witness to the history of a territory, with the desire to always improve, while remaining faithful to Sangiovese. The first years were of experimentation, but by the end of the 70s the name of Montevertine began to appear in all the specialized magazines as one of the best examples of Chianti Classico. The turning point came in 1977: "Le Pergole Torte" was born, the first Sangiovese vinified alone ever produced in the area. The wine is paradoxically rejected by the Chianti Classico consortium, as it does not respect the production parameters by not including the other grapes foreseen in the disciplinary of the time, but obtains a great success from critics and enthusiasts.
The labels designed by Alberto Manfredi make this legendary wine even more fascinating. Montevertine boasts 18 hectares of vineyards cultivated organically and is skilfully managed by Martino, Sergio's son. In addition to the famous "Le Pergole Torte", the company produces the "Pian del Ciampolo" and the "Montevertine", both with the Toscana Rosso IGT denomination. Montevertine wines continue to thrill drinkers from all over the world thanks to their unique finesse and longevity.
