"Sodaccio", in Chianti Classico area, indicates a land where nothing is grown and is mainly good for sheeps. SO its agricultural value is close to zero. These open areas that are beaten by the wind are however ideal place for Sangiovese.
The vineyard: the Montevertine Sodaccio is the name given to the second vineyard planted by the property in 1972.
The 1.5 hectare vineyard that is located in the altitude of 400 meters, divided into two plots on top of knoll divided by the small road. The pergola trellised vineyard plots enjoy primarly North-East exposure and partly South-East exposure. The red soils are stony and iron-rich.
Winemaking: spontaneous fermentation in 8,10 and 12 hectoliters vats, with pumping overs and no filtration.
The first release: 1981 (around 1.000 bottles)
Until 1998 the production ranged from 8.000 and 12.000 bottles. The wine was made only in good years.
