"The Tuscan archipelago is an earthly paradise of which Gorgona is the wildest and most luminescent pearl of Aphrodite. Behind the
its apparent surliness, the unspeakable seduction of scents and silences, and a nature that moves for its strength, for its
its eternal puberty.... And around, water and salt, reflecting the messages of the sky, tightening the laces on the sails." (A.Bocelli - 2014) The
Gorgona project was born in August 2012 thanks to the collaboration between Frescobaldi and Gorgona, the only penitentiary island in
Europe. Here the inmates spend the last period of their sentence, working in contact with nature to develop
professionalism that facilitates reintegration into the working and social reality. Around a small vineyard, in the heart of a
amphitheater overlooking the sea, the project begins whose objective is to allow prisoners to have a concrete experience
and active in the field of viticulture, with the collaboration and supervision of Frescobaldi agronomists and oenologists. Today the
vineyard has an extension of two hectares, of which one initial and a second planted in 2015. From this vineyard of
Vermentino and Ansonica Gorgona was born, the result of the uniqueness of the place, of man's work and a symbol of hope and freedom.
The Gorgona label aims to be the "extraordinary edition" of the island, telling a different aspect of it every year.
With Gorgona2022 we focused again on the extraordinary biodiversity that this tiny island manages to achieve
guard. The eleventh harvest of Gorgonaci tells about orchids, on the island we find many varieties that bloom
at different times. Gorgona was born on ferrous soil, it is a small vineyard of two hectares, wonderfully
exposed to the east and protected from the winds. A vineyard planted in 1999, and subsequently in 2015 and 2018, where the varieties
Vermentino and Ansonica have always been the undisputed protagonists of this extraordinary wine. Gorgon contains within itself
all the essence of the island.
Climate trend
The autumn season in Gorgona was characterized by significant rainfall which was concentrated above all
in November. The winter months of December and January, however, were rather low in rainfall, yes
temperatures higher than seasonal averages were recorded. When the spring season seemed like it was now
next week, during the last week of March there was a drastic drop in temperatures, which did
that the budding of the vine was delayed by approximately 10 days compared to previous years. In particular, the
The budding of the Vermentino occurred at the end of the first week of April. After a spring characterized by
regular rains but never too abundant, the vines continued their development steadily until the summer months.
The months of July and August, particularly dry and characterized by hot days, although always mitigated by the winds
marine, ensured that the Vermentino harvest began during the last week of August, slightly earlier
compared to the average of other years. To harvest the ansonica, however, we had to wait until mid-September
characterized by sunny days and optimal temperatures for the ripening of the grapes.
Tasting notes
Gorgona2022 has a straw yellow appearance, with golden reflections and a crystalline brilliance. On the nose it is an explosion of flora
Mediterranean: white and yellow flowers among which daisy, chamomile, hawthorn, mimosa and broom emerge.
This is followed by clear hints of exotic fruit, passion fruit, mango and pineapple. The fruity notes yes
they follow one another without interruption and soon citrus notes of cedar and mandarin emerge. The olfactory finish is
mineral, dominated by iodine notes. In the mouth it is savory and at the same time fresh and long. Its persistence is remarkable and the
total taste-olfactory correspondence. Every year Gorgonaci amazes and surpasses itself for the complexity and intensity of the sensations
organoleptic qualities that it gives us. Such a unique place could only generate an extraordinary wine.
