Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG Riserva Located in a historic area for the production of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and considered one of the most suitable, Calimaia lies on the soft hills between Val di Chiana and Val d'Orcia. The vineyards arranged around the company's hill enjoy an altitude of 300 meters above sea level and are diversified by exposure and type of soil, thus allowing each cultivated vine to be enhanced.
Climate trend The 2019 climate trend was characterized by a warm winter, followed by a cool and rainy spring, especially in the months of April and May; budding was slightly delayed compared to previous seasons. The transition from spring to summer was regrettable, with a rather hot June and July. August, on the other hand, did not present excessive temperatures. In September, temperatures were average, with some rain concentrated in a few days. The climate of the vintage favored the development of aromatic precursors in the grapes produced on soils of sand and yellow sandstone. The grapes harvested from the vineyards on the clay reached full maturation of the polyphenols, producing opulent wines with great tannic richness.
Technical notes Variety: Sangiovese, locally called Prugnolo gentile, and complementary vines of baccarossa Alcohol content: 14.5% Maturation: 36 months in oak barrels, 6 months in the bottle Vinification and maturation The grapes were harvested by hand and subjected to a careful selection in the field, after which they were vinified in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 26 ° C, and the fermentation was conducted spontaneously. Maceration on the skins lasted 20 days and allowed for perfect extraction of the polyphenolic substances, aided by frequent pumping over in the initial stages of fermentation, interrupted by a delestage in the intermediate stage, and then delicately resumed in the final stage. Malolactic fermentation is completed in steel before winter. Afterwards, the wine remained to mature in 50 hl oak barrels for 36 months, and then continued to refine in the bottle for another 6 months.
Tasting note Calimaia Nobile Riserva2019 has a bright ruby ??red color. A wine of high complexity and notable length and persistence in the mouth.
