Harvest
The winter season passed with mild temperatures and little rainfall. These
conditions determined an early spring. From the second week of April the
climate changed significantly and until mid-May rain was the protagonist with
temperatures below average. These weather conditions compromised the flowering
and caused the bunch wings to spin and the flower drop, resulting in smaller
clusters that were sparse with very low average weights. After May 15, we saw a clear
improvement in the weather conditions that allowed us to set in favorable
conditions. Temperatures above average characterized the month of June, which can be described
as the driest of the last 20 years. The dry climate continued until mid-July with the vines
starting to show symptoms of water stress. The beginning of August brought us the much
desired rain, effectively saving the season. From August 20, with the start of the harvest, the
temperatures returned to normal and the good weather accompanied us until the end of August.
The harvest began on August 20 and ended on September 5 in good weather. The small
size of the bunches and the low yields in the vineyard have legitimized the high quality of this Millesimo
which is expressed in the Vintage Collection cuvées with an intense, fragrant aroma with an intense
and extremely lively taste. Average yield per hectare of 4,800 kilograms of grapes, equivalent to 2,100
liters of wine (wine yield: 43%).
Winemaking
The Franciacorta Vintage Collection are the result of a careful selection of the grapes and a skilful
vinification carried out in full compliance with the Ca’ del Bosco Method. The grapes, freshly
picked by hand in small crates, are classified and cooled. Each bunch is selected by
expert eyes and hands, to then benefit from exclusive “grape spas”. A special system of
washing and hydromassage of the bunches, through three soaking tanks and a drying tunnel.
After pressing in the absence of oxygen, all the musts of the base wines ferment in small oak barrels. To achieve maximum aromatic complexity and expressive power, without losing elegance,
the barrel maturation lasts only 5 months. A pair of flying tanks allows the
wines to be transferred by gravity, from the small barrels to the refinement tanks. 7 months after the harvest,
the cuvée is created. The Vintage Collection Dosage Zéro 2020 is the result of a
skilful union of 24 base wines of Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco and Pinot Nero that give the
finished product a particular profile, pure and sincere, the fruit of the best expression of the
terroir and of the man who understood its character and potential. The disgorgement takes place in the absence of
oxygen, using a unique system in the world, designed and patented by Ca’ del Bosco. This
avoids oxidative shock and further additions of sulphites, making our Franciacortas purer, more
pleasant and longer-lived. Finally, each packaged bottle is marked uniquely, to ensure its traceability.
