« Cristal Vinothèque is Cristal's latest experience, its culmination and its highest achievement. At the end of a long two-decade meditation, combined with late disgorgement and fine-tuning to perfect balance, a new perspective on champagne emerges, an even more perfect and exciting vision. »
— Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon, cellar master
A MYSTERIOUS SANCTUARY
Cristal is world famous, with its own army of devotees. Few, however, are aware of its exceptional ability to refine in the bottle and the intelligence with which this fine wine manages to exploit the passing of the years. These two virtues, rare in the world of champagne, are the reason why the House of Louis Roederer ceremonially preserves some bottles of Cristal in its cellars, subjecting them to the benevolent influence of time.
THE UNEXPECTED EFFECTS OF PATIENCE
Prepared for aging in an ideal environment, the bottles are then isolated and the wine will gently evolve towards harmonious maturation, developing a more complex bouquet and evolved flavours.
ONE CRYSTAL, MORE AND BEYOND
A limited number of bottles of Cristal Vinothèque were therefore aged "sur lattes" for approximately ten years. Their "dosage" was lower than usual, but just enough to allow them to travel through time comfortably. These carefully prepared bottles were then aged in the cellar in the Vinothèque, on corks, for another ten years or so. The time had come to send the message to Cristal lovers that, deep in the Louis Roederer cellars in Reims, there is a small Vinothèque, where beauty knows no limits!
