Brunello di Montalcino by Le Ragnaie is a true wine-jewel of the Montalcino region, generated by the passion and theenthusiasm of the young Riccardo Campinoti, born in Colle Val d'Elsa and at the head of the company since 2002. The production scenario is the one of Passo del Lume Spento, which is the highest point of the whole area of Montalcino, about 600 meters above sea level: the high altitude of the old vineyards owned by Le Ragnaie brings the necessity to have late harvest compaired to the general rule of Montalcino, in the second half of October, resulting in wines with a fine flavor profile which recall the Nordic winemaking. The 5 hectares used for the production of Brunello, facing south-west towards the sea and surrounded by forest fallow, have vines over 40 years old and are grown according to the principles of organic farming. At Le Ragnaie no product of chemical synthesis is inserted in the vineyard, while it is much appreciated the practice of grass-cover, which prevents erosion of the surface favoring the absorption of water by the soil and creates an important habitat for many species of animals and insects, ensuring the formation of an ecosystem full of life essential to the health of the vineyards. In the cellar, Brunello is fermented in traditional concrete vats, with long maceration for about 40 days, while the aging is prolonged for 48 months in large Slavonian oak casks. In this way, Brunello by Le Ragnaie authoritatively expresses the richness of the Montalcino terroir, but with an elegance and freshness typical of wines of high altitude.
