VINTAGE 2011
A rainy June was followed by a fairly dry July and an extremely hot and dry August and September. Picking started on September 8th, bringing healthy grapes, ripe and rich in colour with thick skins, to the cellar.
ORIGIN
The 2011 Riserva was produced with our proprietary clone of Sangiovese Grosso called BBS11 (Brunello Biondi Santi 11), which was identified and selected by Biondi-Santi at Tenuta Greppo in the Seventies. For this Riserva we exclusively used grapes from the oldest vines with over 25 years of age.
AGEING
The 2011 Riserva was aged in Slavonian oak barrels for 3 years. It benefited from a long refinement in the bottle in the quiet and darkness of “La Storica”, the bottle library at Tenuta Greppo where all the historic vintages of Biondi-Santi Riserva are scrupulously kept.
EMOTION
The 2011 offers gorgeous fruit flavours and exhibits an extreme elegance in the glass. Bright ruby red in colour, it exhibits all the charm, intensity and energy of youth with an ample, inviting bouquet. The tannic structure is still in evolution but beautifully backed up by a fruity core with hints of black pepper and other spices. The dry climate of 2011 has made this Riserva perfect to be enjoyed at a young age, without altering its rare intensity and characteristic ageing potential.
ALCOHOL CONTENT
13.5%
