The 2021 vintage was characterized by a dry winter season with temperatures below the historical average. The spring, equally cool, recorded frequent precipitations especially in the month of April, favoring the delay of vegetative development. The summer, hot and dry, allowed to recover the initial vegetative delay and to optimally start the ripening of the grapes which, at the time of harvest, were in perfect health and with berries of smaller size than usual. The harvest of the Sangiovese destined for Maggiarino took place on October 5. Winemaking The best Sangiovese grapes, coming from a selection of the vineyards of the Maggiarino farm, one of the most suitable areas of La Braccesca, underwent a divinification process aimed at preserving the aromas and enhancing the structure. After destemming and a soft pressing, the grapes were transferred to stainless steel tanks where the alcoholic fermentation took place at a controlled temperature of 28 °C; at the end of the maceration, which lasted for about 20 days, the wine was transferred to tonneaux, where the malolactic fermentation took place and the refinement process began, lasting about 12 months. Historical data La Braccesca extends over 508 hectares where the ancient farm of the Bracci counts once stood, from which the name of the estate and its coat of arms derive: an arm covered in armor holding a sword. The total surface area of ??the vineyards is 340 hectares divided into two bodies: the first, of 366 hectares of which 237 are planted with vines, is located on the border between the common path of Montepulciano and that of Cortona. The other plot, 142 hectares of which 103 are vineyards, extends to Montepulciano among three of the most renowned areas for the production of great red wines: Cervognano, Santa Pia and Gracciano. Maggiarino comes from the vineyards of the homonymous farm, one of the most suitable areas of La Braccesca. A balanced wine capable of enhancing the fragrant varietal character through the silky tannins typical of the territory of Nobile di Montepulciano, a historic Tuscan denomination. Tasting Note Maggiarino 2021 has a ruby ??red color. On the nose it shows the typical notes of blood orange of Sangiovese, accompanied by sensations of cherry, black cherry, medlar and small red fruits; the bouquet is completed by sweet aromas of vanilla and coffee. On the palate it is juicy, with character, savory and with velvety tannins. The notes of vanilla and coffee return on the finish.
