Petrolo's Galatrona was born in Vald'Arno di Sopra in the green and luxuriant province of Arezzo. The current estate was part of the ancient Galatrona feud in the Middle Ages and the ancient tower and the baptismal font of Giovanni della Robbia bear witness to this. The work philosophy is strongly linked to tradition and respect for nature in its phases: only with careful observation of the fruits it offers and their intrinsic qualities, it will be possible to transform them in the best possible way, in the belief that wine is the alchemical transformation of nature into culture. On the basis of these principles, today the winery operates a scrupulous process of selection of the grapes and a low productivity in the vineyard to guarantee the wholesomeness of the plants and the bunches.
The Galatrona di Petrolo vineyards were planted around the end of the 1980s. The soil here is optimal for luxuriant growth: there is the presence of clay with galestro, alberese and sandstone, a condition which guarantees that the final product has structure, elegance and balance. The chosen cultivation regime is organic and human intervention in the vineyard is reduced to the bare minimum, banning the use of synthetic chemicals and pesticides, in favor of integral grassing. The harvest is carried out manually in boxes and the best grapes are selected on a sorting table. In the cellar the alcoholic fermentation takes place thanks to the action of indigenous yeasts in cement tanks; frequent and delicate pumping over and a long maceration follow. Refines in French barriques for 18-20 months with constant battonage for the first 6 months.
The color of Petrolo's Galatrona is a dark ruby red with brilliant reflections. The scents are reminiscent of blueberries, blackberries and wild strawberries combined with notes of fern and walnut. In the mouth it is structured, elegant and enveloping with a well-present and well-integrated tannin which concerns a pleasant persistence for an intriguing drink. In combination it is perfect with cuts of grilled and roasted red meat, local game and first courses served with elaborate sauces; also perfect with aged cheeses. Ideal product for romantic evenings in front of the fireplace in winter to enjoy a wine with authentic and genuine flavours.
