DENOMINATION: IGT Toscana. GRAPES: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Sangiovese. SOIL: Marl, ancient clays and high concentration of limestone. ALTITUDE: Between 280 and 310 meters above sea level. VINEYARDS: From 22 to 15 years of age. TRAINING SYSTEM: Spurred cordon, organic farming, limited quantity of grapes per single vineyard. VINTAGE DESCRIBED BY FRANCESCO MONARI, TECHNICAL DIRECTOR AND AGRONOMIST: The agricultural year starts with a fairly mild climate and with infrequent and also not very substantial rainfall. Despite the spring being quite rainless, the budding of the vines occurred slightly earlier than normal, about 7-10 days earlier than normal, growth was a bit uneven but very composed, without vegetative explosions due to the heat of spring, a sign of great basal balance of the soil. From mid-May temperatures rose above average until reaching temperatures considered summer temperatures by June, veraison began on July 18th a week early, the same week we started with. At the end of August we saw the first storms that really restored the situation allowing the plants to ripen their bunches. The quality recorded was very high, very healthy bunches without any kind of mold or disease. Very good concentrations of musts. HARVEST: We started with Merlot, at the beginning of September, followed by Cabernet Sauvignon, then Sangiovese, and finished with Petit Verdot at the end of September. VINIFICATION: Separate fermentations of the different varieties, maceration for about 20 days. Malolactic fermentation in cement. AGING: About 18 months in French barriques from producers specifically chosen for this wine. 60% new and 40% second passage. TASTING NOTES BY BERNARDINO SANI, CEO AND WINEMAKER: Fruity nose with characteristic red fruits, notes of undergrowth and final spices. Mouth powerful but harmonious with a savory finish and present but silky tannins. ALCOHOL CONTENT: 14.5% vol.
