DENOMINATION: Rosso di Montalcino DOC. GRAPES: 100% Sangiovese. SOIL: More alluvial soils with traces of calcareous marl. ALTITUDE: Between 280 and 310 meters above sea level. VINEYARDS: From 22 to 12 years. TRAINING SYSTEM: Spurred cordon and guyot, organic farming. VINTAGE DESCRIBED BY FRANCESCO MONARI, TECHNICAL DIRECTOR AND AGRONOMIST: The winter was quite warm, but rainier than normal, the precipitation made it possible to start with a good water reserve. We saw a milder than-normal March and a cooler April. The month of May was in line with the period averages, but decidedly rainy, causing great difficulties in the usual work of the period and consecrating Montalcino as the rainiest place in Tuscany in this period. The months of June and July were hot with quite high temperatures, strong humidity still caused sudden and quite frequent thunderstorms. In July and August the situation reversed a bit, returning to average; in the last week of August we were hit by a significant heat wave that coincided with a sirocco wind. September and October were characterized by above-average temperatures, which however allowed us to perfect the ripening. Despite the seasonal atypicality we managed to obtain quality grapes without quantitative loss, the ripening was surprisingly homogeneous and balanced. HARVEST: Mid-September. VINIFICATION: Cold pre-fermentation maceration, spontaneous fermentation and maceration on the skins for 20 days in steel tanks at a controlled temperature, trying to enhance freshness and fruity notes. AGING: Oak barrels (10/15 hl) for 6-9 months. TASTING NOTES BY BERNARDINO SANI, CEO AND WINEMAKER: Fresh and vibrant, it presents aromas of red berries together with floral and spicy notes on the finish. Harmonious and savory, it is a balanced, gastronomic and versatile wine. ALCOHOL CONTENT: 14.5% vol.
