The 2022 vintage was marked by a relatively cold winter that favored a slight delay in sprouting. Spring was characterized by temperatures that were above average, allowing the initial delay to be recovered, favoring flowering in line with the historical average. The summer months were generally hot and dry, characterized by sporadic rain events towards the end of August, ensuring perfect ripening and integrity of the grapes. The harvest began in the second week of September with the Cabernet Franc, capable of giving the wine an elegant tannic structure, and continued a week later with the Cabernet Sauvignon, characterized by aromas of ripe black fruit, and concluded at the beginning of October with the Carménère, with grapes capable of giving complexity and spicy aromas. Vinification
The grapes, carefully selected and hand-picked in crates, were selected again on sorting tables before
destemming and soft pressing. The pressed grapes were transferred by gravity into
stainless steel truncated cone-shaped tanks, where the alcoholic fermentation took place at a
controlled temperature of 28 °C and the maceration, which lasted
for about 20 days. The wine was transferred to barriques, where the malolactic fermentation took place and the
subsequent refinement in French oak for 16 months.
Historical Data
Fattoria Le Mortelle is located in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, a few kilometers from Castiglione della Pescaia, in
an extraordinary and fascinating position both for the nature and the history of the places that surround it. The
Antinori family has always been present in these lands. In 1863, a deed of inheritance mentioned among the
possessions Poggio Franco, one of the most suitable vineyards of the
estate, together with other parcels of land. Since 1999, the family has worked both on the
vineyards and on the new winery with the conviction that the area, still emerging in the
Italian wine scene, is highly suited to the production of quality wines and that here the
characteristics of the terroir and the cultivated varieties can best express themselves. The farm extends over 270 hectares of which 170 are planted with vineyards
with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, in addition to more recent plantings of white grape varieties such as Vermentino,
Ansonica and Viognier, and a small amount of Carménère. The soil, of medium texture, sandy and silty, has a
predominantly siliceous-clayey composition and is, in certain areas, rich in skeleton. Poggio alle Nane is born
from the union of the best Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and a small portion of Carménère grapes with the
unique terroir of the Poggio alle Nane vineyards, one of the most suitable areas of the company and capable of producing grapes of
extraordinary quality. A wine with great aromatic complexity and an elegant dense tannin structure.
Tasting Notes
Poggio alle Nane 2022 has a ruby ??red color with purple reflections. On the nose, the intense fruity notes of
currant, blackberry and red plum alternate with sweet hints of vanilla, icing sugar and pleasant spicy and
balsamic sensations of blond tobacco and eucalyptus. The entry is enveloping, supported by sweet and refined tannins that
accompany a long, persistent finish characterized by notes of cocoa and myrtle.
