The harvest, slightly delayed compared to the historical average, began on the last day of August with the Viognier, characterized by particularly fragrant notes, and continued in mid-September with the Vermentino, characterized by vibrant and citrusy sensations. The harvest ended with the Ansonica in the first days of October, with grapes capable of giving the wine structure and aroma.
Vinification
Upon arrival in the cellar, the grapes were softly pressed and vinified separately by varietal, in order to enhance the characteristics of each variety. The must thus obtained, brought to a temperature of 10 °C for about 24 hours in order to favor its natural clarification, was subsequently transferred to stainless steel tanks, where alcoholic fermentation took place at a controlled temperature of 16 °C. . Vivia aged for a short period in steel in contact with its lees for about 3 months before being bottled in January 2019.
Historical data
Fattoria Le Mortelle is located in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, a few kilometers from Castiglione della Pescaia, in an extraordinary and fascinating position both for nature and for the history of the places that surround it. The Antinori family has always been present in these lands. In 1863, a patrimonial deed mentions Poggio Franco, one of the most suitable vineyards of the estate, among the possessions, together with other parcels of land. The family has worked both on the vineyards and on the new cellar since 1999 with the belief that the area, still emerging in the Italian wine scene, is highly suited to the production of quality wines and that here the characteristics of the terroir and of the cultivated varieties. The soil, of medium texture, sandy and silty, has a predominantly siliceous-clayey composition and is, in certain areas, rich in skeleton.
Here Vermentino and Ansonica, typical vines of the Tuscan coastal area, are combined with Viognier, planted after years of patient experimentation, for an elegant white, witness to the aromas and colors of the Maremma coast.
Tasting notes
Vivia 2018 has a bright yellow color with slight greenish reflections. The nose is pleasant and intense. The delicate hints of pineapple and lemon are combined with the white peach fragrance, composing a harmonious bouquet, completed by the scent of white linden flowers. On the palate the wine is creamy and mineral, with an aromatic freshness of Mediterranean herbs and citrus fruits on the finish, characteristic of the vintage.
