Description
NERVES: THE ORIGINS OF THE GATTINARA
Founded in 1906 by Luigi Nervi, the homonymous company is the oldest of the Gattinara appellation and, since 2021, has been taken over by the Giacomo Conterno company, another crucial name for Piedmontese wine production. There are 27 hectares of vineyards in total, harvested from soils rich in volcanic porphyry from which Nebbiolo grapes derive maximum nourishment, overlooking Monte Rosa which, with its majestic height, protects the grapes from the icy winds of the north. Here the Nebbiolo grape is called 'Spanna' and, even in its 'basic' versions, manages to express an out of the ordinary minerality, showing off nuances that the mark. This sample of Nervi ages for 36 months in oak barrels, for a wine that is pure quality, absolute expression of its territory, among the best Gattinara that can be tasted.
Intense garnet red and excellent transparency, it has an unmistakable and explicit sense of wet earth, dry leaves and undergrowth, a very slight spacing, crossed by fruity shades of jam and all a deep mineral vein, almost granitic. Definitely savory taste, with great personality, with dense and chewable tannins and an intriguing, almost ferrous freshness, which accompanies a long aromatic persistence.
Delicious wine with agnolotti with meat sauce but also fillet with green pepper.
