THE CUVÉE The first wine from Château Mouton-Rothschild is produced with grapes from the best vineyards of the Plateau de Mouton parcel, included in the 90 hectares of the property. The vines have their roots in particularly deep gravel soil. As the Pauillac denomination dictates, this blend sees a clear predominance of cabernet sauvignon, which can reach up to 80% depending on the vintage, completed by merlot and a touch of cabernet franc and petit verdot. The grapes are harvested by hand, and each grape is carefully selected first in the vineyard and then in the cellar. After destemming, the bunches are transferred directly into the vats, without pressing. Each vat has different dimensions, depending on the different parcels of the estate. The wine is matured for approximately twenty months in full compliance with the Médoc tradition: new barriques are used and the filling and clarification is carried out with egg white to stabilize the wine, so that the solid parts fall towards the bottom of the barrique. The cuvées of the different vintages stand out for their softness, richness, depth and notable aromatic complexity, where notes of blackcurrant, roasted coffee, mint and delicate leather stand out. Little curiosity: every year Château Mouton-Rothschild collaborates with a different artist to create the label for their bottles: among the illustrious authors we find Chagall, Braque, Picasso, Dalí, Francis Bacon and even Prince Charles!
