The Vineyards
The location and northern exposure of the 2 hectares of Chiuse di Sotto vineyard allows us to have a great versatility of destination grapes based above all on the seasonal weather trend, considering the important aromatic and fragrance / fruit load induced by the flu of the fresh currents of the north and of the good fertility of the soil. The wines coming from these grapes which have important and particular characteristics are integrated and completed in the final blends with the wines coming from the Podernovone grapes located and facing south-south/west with soils very rich in skeleton and marl, well draining, therefore capable of conferring great tannic and phenolic richness with balanced anthocyanin and alcohol concentrations.
The Chiuse vineyards have a northerly exposure, ideal for obtaining wines with a complex bouquet, and the north-south orientation of the rows guarantees maximum light for the bunches. The density is 4500 vines per hectare with the traditional spurred cordon training of Montalcino. In Podernovone, in the Sant'Antimo area, on the southeastern slopes of Montalcino, our 4 vineyards cover an area of ??four and a half hectares, planted with Sangiovese Grosso and a small part of Merlot. In May 1998 the planting operations of the first 2.2 hectares of vineyards were completed. The remaining 2.3 hectares were planted in October 1998. The soil is rich in galestro, calcareous-marble schists, of medium texture with ideal south-south-west exposure. We practice viticulture without the use of herbicides and synthetic products. Meticulous care is provided to each plant individually, according to their needs, in order to guarantee a perfectly balanced vegetative development.
