Bottled for the first time with the 2004 harvest, this wine is the purest and most direct expression of Bolgheriaccording to Le Macchiole. Red with grace and intensity, joyful and easy to drink, it does not give up substance and complexity.BOLGHERI RED | 2022CLIMATEThe year started with slightly higher than average temperaturesseasonal and little rain, factors that led to a late start of thepruning operations. Spring started with slightly lower temperatures and continuedof the absence of significant rainfall. All this caused extremely late budding (almost fourweeks compared to classic years), started in the first ten days of April, andcontinued with a slow growth of the shoots, until the last precipitationsignificant at the beginning of May. From this moment on the absence of precipitation, combined with a rapid increasetemperatures, led to a rapid arrival of the flowering phase andsubsequent fruit setting. The rapid succession of these two vegetative phases has almost completely canceled out themonth of delay during budding in spring. The veraison was early, especially for the Chardonnay and SauvignonBlanc but, in part, also for Merlot. The entire summer period was characterized by a prolonged absence of rain, which affected the size of the berries and led to irregular ripening. This made the exact identification of the era particularly complicatedcollection for each of the varieties requiring a greater number ofsampling and careful selection of parcels in order to unite the most areashomogeneous. The 2022 harvest will certainly be remembered for its duration. Startedearly with Chardonnay on August 9th, it ended, almost a month and a halflater, on September 22nd with the Cabernet Sauvignon, thanks to the arrival of therains and a drop in temperatures starting from mid-August.The rains we had at this time of year contributed significantlyimportant to recover the vintage, allowing us to have good and excellent yieldsripening of all red grapes.DATA SHEETBolgheri Rosso 2022: Bolgheri Rosso DOCFirst year of production: 2004Varieties: Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, SyrahVineyards: Vignone 1999, Casa Nuova 1998-2009-2013, Sommi 2015Training system: guyot, double guyot and medocaineProduction per plant: 1000 g per plantHarvest: from the third week of August to mid-SeptemberVinification: fermentation and maceration in steel for 15 daysAging: 10 months, 70% in 225/228 liter barriques of 3rd and 4th passage, 30% incementBottling: February 2024
