Bolgheri is experimentation. The Bordeaux model in Bolgheri encounters a warmer microclimate than in the Atlantic and each variety manages to ripen to perfection. This has pushed many wineries over time to try their hand at expressing pure grape varieties. Matarocchio is the name of a vineyard on the Guado al Tasso estate cultivated with Cabernet franc; over the years it was noticed that the wine from this vineyard had an edge. For this reason Antinori decided to try to separate the best grapes from that vineyard and make it a label in its own right. Thus was born Matarocchio, a pure Cabernet franc of rare elegance and complexity, produced only in the most favorable years and in a limited number of bottles.
It is a very exclusive label, which was born as an exercise in style, to understand how far the quality of the Bolgheri vineyard can reach. Compared to Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc is less tannic, but its advantage is the elegance of its aromas, which are enhanced to the maximum in the Bolgheri area.
