Climate
The 2024 vintage in Bolgheri began with a rather
mild winter and little rainfall that led to a slightly
early budbreak, which occurred starting on March 20.
During the spring, characterized by frequent
though moderately intense rains, careful work in the vineyard was necessary to
preserve the health of the vines.
July was a generally hot and dry month and
positively slowed down the vegetative vigor of the vines, creating
the optimal conditions for veraison and the beginning of
the ripening of the grapes. In August, temperatures were normal,
even if between the 20th and the 25th of the month an
unusual warm and dry wind from the north generated some
dehydration phenomena on leaves and grapes in the most
exposed areas. At the end of August, a disturbance of Atlantic origin brought rain and cool air, restoring favorable conditions for the continuation of ripening. The month of September, sunny and dry, allowed full ripening to be achieved in each parcel of the vineyard, with excellent quality levels. The Vermentino harvest took place in the first and second ten days of September.
Vinification
Each parcel was harvested separately, depending on the level of ripeness of the grapes, in order to enhance the complex territorial characteristics of each vineyard. Upon arrival at the cellar, the grapes were destemmed, delicately crushed and softly pressed. The resulting must was transferred to stainless steel tanks where alcoholic fermentation took place at a temperature of 16 °C. The different lots were carefully and regularly assessed and assembled. Tenuta Guado al Tasso Vermentino was bottled in January 2025.
Historical Data
Tenuta Guado al Tasso is located in the small and prestigious DOC of Bolgheri, on the coast of Alta Maremma, about
one hundred kilometers southwest of Florence. This denomination has a relatively short history (it was born in
1994) but boasts an international fame as a new point of reference in the world wine scene.
Tenuta Guado al Tasso extends over an area of ??1,000 hectares - about 320 planted with vineyards, the rest cultivated with
wheat, sunflowers and olive trees - in a splendid plain surrounded by hills known as the "Bolgheri amphitheater" for
its particular shape. The Guado al Tasso vineyards are mainly composed of Cabernet
Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Vermentino grapes, the latter grown as both white and
red grapes. They enjoy a mild climate due to the nearby presence of the sea: the constant breezes mitigate the summer heat and the
rigours of winter, clear the sky and keep the sunshine index high. The first vintage of
Vermentino produced at Tenuta Guado al Tasso was 1996.
Tasting Notes
The Vermentino of Tenuta Guado al Tasso has a straw yellow color with greenish reflections. On the nose it is
intense and characterized by pleasant floral and fruity sensations that recall citrus fruits, hawthorn and
peach pulp. On the palate it is savory and of good persistence, with a fresh and pleasantly citrusy finish.
