Gorgona 2023 Costa ToscanaIGT "The Tuscan archipelago is an earthly paradise of which Gorgona is the wildest and most luminescent pearl of Aphrodite. Behind its apparent pugnacity, the indescribable seduction of perfumes and silences, and a nature that moves with its strength, with its eternal puberty.... And all around, water and salt, reflecting the messages of the sky, tightening the nooses on the sails." (A. Bocelli - 2014) The Gorgona project was born in August 2012 thanks to the collaboration between Frescobaldi and Gorgona, the only penitentiary island in Europe. Here, inmates spend the last period of their sentence, working in contact with nature to develop professional skills that facilitate reintegration into the working and social reality. Around a small vineyard, in the heart of an amphitheater overlooking the sea, the project begins, the aim of which is to allow prisoners to have a concrete and active experience in the field of viticulture, with the collaboration and supervision of Frescobaldi agronomists and oenologists. Today the vineyard has an extension of two hectares, of which one is initial and a second planted in 2015. From this vineyard of Vermentino and Ansonica Gorgona is born, the fruit of the uniqueness of the place, of man's work and a symbol of hope and freedom. The Gorgona label wants to be the "extraordinary edition" of the island, telling a different aspect of it every year. With Gorgona2023 we wanted to tell about the wind or rather the winds that blow here playing a primary role in daily life. The four winds, the Grecale, the Scirocco, the Libeccio and the Maestrale become fundamental elements in the viticulture of the island, influencing the air temperature and therefore the ripening of the bunches. Gorgona is born on ferrous soil, it is a small vineyard of two hectares, wonderfully exposed to the east and protected from the winds. A vineyard planted in 1999, and subsequently in 2015 and 2018, where the Vermentino and Ansonica varieties have always been the undisputed protagonists of this extraordinary wine. Gorgona contains all the essence of the island. Climate trend After an autumn rich in rainfall, concentrated mainly in the month of November and the early part of December, the winter season of 2023 in Gorgona recorded a total of just a few mm of rain, with isolated rainfall in the month of January. Temperatures during the initial months of the year recorded values ??above the seasonal averages, with peaks that sometimes reached 20°C during the central hours of the day. The month of May recorded a drop in temperatures, also thanks to greater rainfall, which helped the vines to cope with a limited water availability in the soil due to the scarce winter rains. Temperatures progressively rose during the summer months, without ever reaching excessively high peaks thanks to the mitigating action of the sea. The month of August, contrary to previous years, was rather cool, with a rise in temperature that affected the last 10 days of the month. September, characterized by sunny days and high temperatures, helped maintain the good health of the grapes, which is why the harvest continued until the first week of October, allowing for an optimal degree of ripening of the grapes. Tasting notes Gorgona 2023 stands out for its beautiful straw yellow color with golden reflections, bright and crystalline. The bouquet is complex and elegantly intense with Mediterranean and iodine notes that stand out. Among the Mediterranean scents, helichrysum, savory, rosemary stand out and then floral notes that recall broom and chamomile. The fruity part tends more towards yellow-fleshed fruit and exotic fruits but also on delicate citrus notes. In the mouth it is savory, fresh and long. The persistence is remarkable and the taste-olfactory correspondence is total. Once again Gorgon impresses and surprises with its decisive character. Welcome Gorgona Bianco 2023.
