The 2021 vintage was characterized by a mild winter with medium rainfall which guaranteed good water reserves in the soil, useful for the start of the growing season. The spring was initially cold, thus favoring a slight delay in the budding and subsequent flowering phases. The summer months were generally hot and dry, ensuring the perfect ripening and integrity of the grape.
The harvest began in the third week of September with the Cabernet Franc, capable of giving the wine an elegant tannic structure, and continued a week later with the Cabernet Sauvignon, characterized by aromas of ripe red fruit. The harvest concluded with the Carménère in the first days of October, with grapes capable of giving complexity and spicy aromas.
The grapes, carefully chosen and hand-picked into boxes, were selected again on the sorting tables before destemming and soft pressing. The pressed grapes were transferred by gravity into truncated cone-shaped stainless steel tanks, where alcoholic fermentation took place at a controlled temperature of 28°C and maceration, which lasted for approximately 20 days. The wine was transferred to barriques, where the malolactic fermentation and subsequent aging in French oak wood took place for 16 months.
Poggio alle Nane 2021 has a deep ruby ??red color. On the nose it is intense, of great complexity, characterized by notes of blackcurrant and ripe blackberries in harmony with the floral and balsamic scents, such as eucalyptus and violet; delicate spicy aromas and Mediterranean herbs complete the bouquet. On the palate it is enveloping, structured, with elegant tannins. The persistence on the finish is notable, characterized by pleasant aromas of tobacco and black chocolate.
