The wine
Born from the union of the best Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and a small portion of Carménère with the unique terroir of the Poggio alle Nane vineyards, one of the most suitable areas of the company and capable of producing grapes of extraordinary quality. A wine with great aromatic complexity and an elegant tannic texture.
Poggio alle Nane
From a highly vocated area
Poggio alle Nane comes from an area highly suited to the production of quality wines, an area in which Cabernet as well as Carménère are able to express themselves at their best.
The name
Poggio alle Nane takes its name from the area where the vineyards are located: an area where ducks locally called "dwarfs" were originally bred, extending from the hillock to the lake that still exist today.
Le Mortelle Farm
Le Mortelle Farm
Fattoria Le Mortelle is located in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, a few kilometers from Castiglione della Pescaia, in an extraordinary and fascinating position both for nature and for the history of the places that surround it. The Antinori family has always been present in these lands.
In 1863, a patrimonial deed mentions Poggio Franco, one of the most suitable vineyards of the estate, among the possessions, together with other parcels of land. The family has worked both on the vineyards and on the new cellar since 1999 with the belief that the area, still emerging in the Italian wine scene, is highly suited to the production of quality wines and that here the characteristics of the terroir and of the cultivated varieties.
The farm covers 270 hectares of which 170 are planted with vines with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, as well as more recent plantings of white grape varieties such as Vermentino, Ansonica and Viognier, and a small share of Carménère. The soil, of medium texture, sandy and silty, has a predominantly siliceous-clayey composition and is, in certain areas, rich in skeleton.
