Crowned "Champagne of the decade" 2000-2009, ahead of names like Krug's Clos du Mesnil, Louis Roederer's Dom Pérignon and Cristal, again within the same decade of vintages, the Rare Millésime is the iconic champagne from Piper-Heidsieck , yet another creation of the talented cave chef Régis Camus.
It is the happy marriage of Chardonnay varieties from Montagna de Reims and Pinot Noir, coming from 8 crus of Champagne. The grapes enjoy beneficial sunny climates, in which they reach the perfect stage of ripeness. The Rare Millésime is released by the maison after 10 years of aging on its own yeasts.
To the eye it is pure crystal, with a brilliant citrine yellow hue, enlivened by a luminous and persistent perlage. The first scents that can be perceived are reminiscent of honeysuckle, iris and jasmine. Then it's the turn of vetiver and exotic woods, enriched with notes of white pepper, ginger, cumin and a mineral touch that enhances the complexity of this bubble. On the palate it is silky and soft, delicious, exotic, superb.
