Every year, the Maison Krug pays homage to the dream of one man, Joseph Krug, with a new edition of Krug Grande Cuvée, the most generous expression of Champagne.
Krug Grande Cuvée 171st edition is a blend of 131 wines from 12 different vintages, the youngest of which dates back to 2015 while the oldest dates back to 2000. The rest of around seven years in the Krug cellars gives this edition an expression and a remarkable elegance. In all, it took more than twenty years of careful savoir-faire to be able to taste this Edition of Krug Grande Cuvée, which represents the 171st recreation of the most generous expression of Champagne.
Krug Grande Cuvée 171a Edizione was composed with the 2015 harvest, a vintage marked by unprecedented heat and drought from the end of May until mid-August, slowing down the development of the bunches. Luckily, the rains in the second half of August allowed the grains to grow, with the sun's rays and reasonable temperatures offering optimal conditions. The harvest took place between 31 August and 21 September, in the rain, with excellent heterogeneity between the various plots.
To create this Edition of Krug Grande Cuvée, the Chef de Caves sought to accentuate the variegated and elegant aromatic expressions of the year with reserve wines from different plots and from 11 different vintages. The care dedicated to the vineyards and the attention given by Krug to the unique properties of each soil have made it possible to obtain the great expressiveness of this Edition of Krug Grande Cuvée.
In total, the reserve wines from the House's extensive collection make up 42% of the final blend, a contribution that brings the breadth and roundness essential to any edition of Krug Grande Cuvée.
The final composition of this bottle of Krug Grande Cuvée is 45% Pinot Noir, 37% Chardonnay and 18% Meunier.
