n the south-west area of Montalcino is the Case Basse estate, which extends over a total area of 23 hectares and has belonged to Gianfranco Soldera and his wife Graziella since the early 1970s. Moved from the outset by the intention of producing a Brunello of the highest quality, Gianfranco and Graziella have set up a project based on deep convictions, in which nature and the ecosystem represent the two indisputable cornerstones. Starting from this, culture and ancient traditions are combined with innovation and research, arriving to create an inseparable combination, which is found both in the vineyard and in the cellar. Between the rows, the vines know neither herbicides nor pesticides, and are fertilized exclusively with organic substances. The extensions of the vineyards are reduced to allow manual processing and sale in a short time.
The pruning is twofold: the winter one, short, and the green one. The thinning of the grapes and a limited autumn leaf removal favor the illumination of the bunches and the optimal ripening of the fruit. In the vineyards the absolute protagonist is Sangiovese, the variety that more than any other has contributed to the fame of the Montalcino area in the world. In the cellar the vinification is carried out in Slavonian oak vats, without ever resorting to the addition of selected yeasts. Finally, the aging process, which can last up to five years, is carried out in large Slavonian oak barrels. This is how the wines labeled Soldera are born, wines of the highest quality and held back by a great elegance, capable of increasing their prestige and offering ever greater suggestions over the years.
The Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG "Case Basse" is certainly one of the most successful Italian wines, known in every part of the globe and recognizable thanks to the unmistakable label depicting the dolphin, sacred symbol of the God Dionysus, designed by the painter Pietro Leddi.
Soldera wines have great aging potential and are perfect for celebrating the most important occasions, after having jealously guarded them in the cellar for at least a decade.
