Harvest notes
The 2021 vintage will be remembered for various aspects: the climatic one, with a dry and hot season, the productive one for an excellent quantity and quality and the organizational one, with a punctual management of all the
harvest activities in the vineyard and in the cellar.
The harvest was short, starting on September 2nd and ending on October 1st, and brought excellent results, confirming the continuity of production in the Argentiera vineyards: all the varieties reacted well to
a difficult year due to the lack of rain, the lack of which however allowed us to have healthy and perfectly ripe grapes.
One of the most beautiful Bolgheri vintages, characterized by a fairly short harvest period, about
25 days.
At the beginning of August there was a temperature peak of about 10 days, during which the plants went
on a “pause”, without however altering their biological cycle and also limited the action of pathogenic
insects, favoring the ripening and perfect development of the bunches, in total balance.
At the same time, internal resources were well used: localized irrigation at the
opportune time, limited processing to what was necessary so as not to increase evapotranspiration from the
soil, shredding of the grassed rows, so as to create a mulching effect on the soil and prevent the sun from
heating them excessively.
The first bunches to be picked in the Argentiera vineyard were those of Merlot which, like every year,
was the most generous, but all the varieties reacted well to a year that was once again not
easy due to the lack of rain, the lack of which however allowed us to have healthy and perfectly
ripe grapes.
Then in the third week of September the perfect conditions were reached for the harvest of
Cabernet Sauvignon accompanied by a 15 mm rain which, although not quenching the thirst of the earth,
certainly contributed to supporting the final stage of ripening.
The harvest ended on October 1st with the harvest of Cabernet Franc in compliance
with the harvest programs, following the maturity of each individual parcel and vineyard.
The red grapes showed a regularity of fermentation and extractions that give wines rich in both aromatic and structural polyphenols: excellent indications for a significant structure potential and therefore for an excellent vintage.
