The Amarone della Valpolicella “La Groletta” by Corte Giara represents an eclectic and modern interpretation of the Veronese winemaking tradition which was born from a project developed in 1989 by the Allegrini family, historic managers of the agricultural company of the same name strongly rooted in Valpolicella since mid of the nineteenth century. The need for which Corte Giara was created was to decline classic production, adapting it to daily consumption while maintaining the high value of the labels, for which Allegrini is famous throughout the world. Specifically, this Amarone faithfully reflects the tradition that has elected it as a great red of international fame while retaining within it a new modernity of style, in step with the evolution of contemporary taste.
Corte Giara “La Groletta” begins its vinification with the drying of the bunches in the fruit room for a period following the harvest which lasts for approximately 4 months. During this drying the grapes naturally progress with maturation and lose approximately 40% of their weight, thus concentrating the sugary and aromatic substances within them. This is then followed by vinification of the dried grapes in steel containers at a controlled temperature and refinement divided into equal parts in large Slavonian barrels and second passage barriques.
“La Groletta” by Corte Giara Amarone presents an organoleptic profile that reveals a deep, impenetrable ruby red color of full consistency, evidence of the concentration caused by drying. The aromatic bouquet impresses with the power of the fruit which is reminiscent of well-ripe cherries and morello cherries and is framed by a persuasive peppery spiciness and mostly cloves. The range of aromas is enriched by a clear tobacco scent accompanied by a light minerality. The sip is enveloping, intense and soft, balanced however by a freshness of crunchy fruit and a velvety and intriguing tannin.
