The Kerner from the South Tyrolean winery Kofererhof is one of the most interesting versions of this typical vine from the Isarco Valley, the result of a cross between Riesling and Schiava Grossa. The soils of morainic origin, rich in stones, gravels and sands and the climate characterized by notable temperature variations between day and night temperatures, allow the vine to ripen slowly, with a particularly rich and elegant aromatic complement. Its fruity and spicy notes, accompanied by the typical freshness of mountain wines, give a smooth, tense sip with good aromatic complexity.
The Kerner white is the result of the work of one of the most highly regarded vignerons in the Isarco Valley. Gunther Kerschbaumer founded the Kofererhof winery in 1995 and in a few years he was able to establish himself in the panorama of South Tyrolean wine with labels of extraordinary quality. The estate is located in the Varna area, just above the Novacella Abbey. The vineyards are grown at an altitude between 600 and 800 meters above sea level. The kerner has adapted very well to the cool climate of the valley and produces wines with an excellent balance between fruity aromas and vibrant freshness. At the end of the harvest, the grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. Before bottling, the wine matures for at least 8 months in steel tanks.
The Kerner wine from Kofererhof is one of the most representative labels of the wonderful territory of the Isarco Valley, one of the emerging areas in the panorama of great Italian whites, which is increasingly consolidating its character of excellence. It is a bottle that perfectly interprets the Alpine character of the area, through the vinification of one of its symbolic vines. In the glass it has a bright and brilliant straw yellow colour. On the nose it is intense and rich, with aromas of citrus fruits, yellow pulp fruit, hints of tropical fruit and soft spicy nuances. On the palate it has a good body, it is rich, with intense and ripe aromas, well balanced by a notable freshness and a clear savory vein. The finish is of good length and persistence.
