The company was born from the desire, matured over the years, to be able to produce a great Syrah through the farming tradition of the Amerighi family, the passion and knowledge of the world of wine and the practice of biodynamics.
To achieve this goal they have identified an area of Cortona called Poggiobello di Farneta, and within it, two hills well exposed to the southwest, enclosed between an old gravel road to the west, a grove to the south and the ridge of the hills to the east to close the horizon.
The geological and climatic investigations carried out on the farm then confirmed that this was the terroir they were aiming to plant the clones and our selections of Syrah, carefully chosen in the Rhone Valley.
The management of the vineyard follows the dictates of natural viticulture and biodynamic agriculture: pruning and working the land are marked by the lunar and planetary phases; the phytosanitary defense is entrusted only to copper and sulfur distributed in minimal quantities thanks to the use of macerates and natural herbal teas; Biodynamic preparations allow to revive the earth and avoid any fertilization and winter green manures to structure the land during the cold season.
All this to be able to bring our healthy grapes to maturity and to allow us to vinify it without corrective agents and chemicals. The grapes, after the destemming, are partly left whole grain and partly lightly pressed with the feet and placed by hand in small concrete vats without the use of pumps. Fermentation occurs spontaneously without selected yeasts, sulfur and temperature control. The ageing takes place in wood and cement for 14 months, and the wine is bottled without filtration or stabilization.
The meetings with the many collaborators who have accompanied us in recent years have meant that the initial desire to produce quality wine was integrated into a larger project, that of making the company a laboratory on agricultural sustainability. Today our intent is to propose the natural practice as an alternative to conventional agriculture through the cultivation of cereals, vegetables and fruits up to the breeding of animals combined with the production of a great wine!
